Being a Mother is so very important to me. So it seems only natural that we would start a business that celebrates the joy and significance of being a mother.
I have always had an entrepreneurial interest. But my first goal and priority was being a good mother. And to me this idea meant: staying home to raise your children, being involved with their schooling and extracurricular activities and being available when your children need you.
I would have to say I "stumbled into" this line of work. I had taken beading classes and loved making simple jewelry with what I had learned. My scrapbooking girlfriends started to show me their 'mothers bracelets and name bracelets' and telling me how much they loved them, but also how much they had to pay for them. Being that I knew a little about the kinds of beads used and the amount of work that went into constructing a personalized bracelet, I offered to make their next bracelets for less.
My girlfriends took me up on my offer and I had many orders for themselves and for Mother's Day gifts. I also had the good fortune to be able to show my bracelets to the teachers at my son's elementary school. They too gave my bracelets and matching earrings a warm reception. So with the encouragement of family, friends and acquaintances, this small company was born.
In my travels, I had the good fortune to meet and work with Ruth Bixby, the author of the poem featured on the Religious Mother's Bracelet page. Together we are working at spreading the word that:
- you need the Lord in your life to guide you and
- that being a mother is an important job.
Starting this company has allowed both my husband and myself to cut down on the number of hours we work outside of the home.
And we are now able to spend more time with family, which is so very important to us.
